To better serve the national innovation-driven development strategy and the Healthy China strategy, Taikang Insurance Group donated 1 billion RMB to Wuhan University in 2021 to support the development in medical and life sciences at Wuhan University. It is led by Professor Song Bao-Liang, a renowned metabolic biologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who serves as the Director and Chief Scientist of Taikang Center. The primary mission of Taikang Center is to drive the cultivation of top innovative talents through outstanding research in life and medical sciences, aiming to build an world-class highland for scientific research and talent cultivation. Taikang Center adopts internationally advanced management and operation mechanisms, establishes a scientific advisory committee, and employs a modern scientific Principal Investigator (PI) system (a Chief Academic Leader + a team) to assemble high-level research groups. Taikang Center has established a full set of core facilities with advanced large equipment. It focuses on cutting-edge exploration of significantly scientific questions related to health and diseases, provides pioneering innovations for the treatment of major diseases, and continuously contributes to improve China's innovation capabilities in the fields of medical and life sciences.
