Wuhan University Taikang Life Medicine Center (referred to as the Center) is a relatively independent physical research institution operated by Wuhan University, aiming to enhance its scientific and technological innovation capabilities in the fields of medicine and life sciences, accelerate the resolution of bottleneck problems in the fields of medicine and life sciences, and accelerate the construction of first-class medical and biological disciplines at Wuhan University. The center is now releasing the Principal Investigator (PI) application guide to all relevant units in the school. The personnel relationship of the supported PI remains unchanged within the school unit, and the center provides research funding, encouraging researchers to independently choose to explore cutting-edge innovation in the fields of medicine and life sciences.

1、 Application deadline and funding deadline

1. Declaration period: September 26th to October 27th, 2023.

2. Funding period: 3 years, upon which international evaluation will be conducted.

2、 Declaration conditions

1. Adhere to the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China and the management regulations of Wuhan University, possess good scientific ethics, abide by academic norms, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era;

2. Possess a senior professional and technical position (title) or a doctoral degree;

3. PI who conducts scientific research full-time at Wuhan University shall be selected and recommended by the unit internally, and direct applications from individuals are not accepted;

4. Engaged in medical and life science research related to human diseases and health, with the support of this project, it is expected to achieve significant original research results and become an influential scholar in this field.

3、 Recommended indicators

Each relevant unit shall recommend no more than 5 talents, and the introduction of talents after January 1, 2022 shall not account for the recommended quota.

4、 Declaration process

1. Each relevant unit shall organize evaluations and recommend candidates based on the application conditions, and select the best candidates for recommendation.

2. All relevant units shall submit the recommended materials to the central office before October 27th (sent by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to Room 1008 of the College of Sciences, and sent by the Medical Department to Room 701 of Building 3 of the Medical Department).

The materials include: ① Unit recommendation letter (which includes an evaluation of the recommender's ideological and political qualities, professional ethics, and professional ethics, as well as an introduction to the teaching situation, etc., signed by the unit leader and stamped with the unit seal); ② Recommended person: "PI Application Form (including supporting materials) for Taikang Life Medicine Center of Wuhan University" (attachment); ③ For introduced talents who do not account for the recommended quota, a copy of the relevant contract information page is required. One copy of the above materials shall be made in paper format, and the electronic version shall be packaged and sent by the unit to the designated email address.

3. The center will organize the preliminary evaluation and defense of recommended candidates, and specific arrangements will be notified separately.

5、 Precautions

1. The central PI application is for talent project applications, mainly assessing the applicant's academic level, work foundation, and innovation potential. The funding amount will be determined by the research funding working group of the center based on expert evaluation results.

2. The materials and related content submitted by the applicant shall not involve any state secrets. If it involves research ethics and technological security (such as biosafety, information security, etc.), the applicant should strictly comply with national laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

3. The applicant shall not interfere or affect the evaluation work in any form such as greeting, and once verified, their application qualification shall be cancelled.
